Little People?

A dozen lads he called and sent

To preach, to heal, bear testament

To all that Jesus said and did

And from the spell of demons rid

He gave them pow’r to loose the chains

He warned them of the gains and pains

And so they went out two-by-two

And saw what Jesus’ name could do

But when they came to give report

Of all the things the Lord had wrought

There came the news that John had died

His head the price of kingly pride

So come aside and rest and grieve

But from the crowd they could not leave

And on a hillside quite remote

He fed five thousand hungry folk

A deaf man’s ears and tongue set free

A blind man’s eyes released to see

But still the dozen lads weren’t sure

Just who they’d left their fishing for

The Father then to Peter showed

The One they followed on the road

Was Christ the King, the Son of God

Who came to us, our paths he trod

Correct! But now this understand

I’ve come to die, it’s what God planned

Unless I die I bear no fruit

Do not distract me from this route

Six days passed by then up a hill

With Peter, James and John a thrill

For Jesus’ glory was revealed

His majesty was not concealed

Elijah, Moses one each side

A voice from heaven testified

This is my Son, my great delight

Open your ears, hear him aright

And Jesus shone with heaven’s light

The lads bowed down with holy fright

And then from mountain top they came

Into the vale of pain and shame

A demon they could not drive out

Had filled a father’s heart with doubt

Have faith, my son, he shall be well

This demon from the pit of hell

Shall go, your son shall find relief

Oh Lord, please help my unbelief

Then Jesus cast the demon out

And news of this went all about

Some parents brought their children near

And Jesus blessed their offspring dear

But then the lads got out of line

And said the Master had no time

For little people don’t amount

To anything, they just don’t count

So take your kids back home to play

The Master’s teaching us to pray

When Jesus saw their hearts were hard

He gave them all a yellow card

Don’t block a person’s way to me

No child or leper, refugee

For no-one comes to me unless

The Father gave them my address

And when they come at his command

No-one can pluck them from my hand
